How translated words are counted

Translated words are calculated as source words multiplied by target locales. For English content, one word is roughly 1.3 tokens, though actual usage varies by language, formatting, and model output.

  • 1,000 source words into 3 locales = 3,000 translated words
  • 10,000 source words into 5 locales = 50,000 translated words
  • 2,500 English words is roughly 3,300 tokens before prompt and response overhead

Token estimates are directional only. Actual token usage varies by language, structure, and the amount of output the model returns.
